Web Services That Can Scan Your Website for Malware
Updated: March 31, 2010
There are currently three web services that can scan your website to help you indentify the malware infection scripts that are located on your website. Since these services can only see web pages generated by your web server, they will not be able to identify the underlying code that is placing the malware infection scripts into the web pages and may not identify all of the infection. If your website has been infected by the Gumblar malware and is being used to host the malware the services other Google will not be able to detect this. You will also need to determine the security vulnerability(s) that allowed your website to be infected and fix them or your website will be infected again.
If your website has been flagged for malware by Google, Google provides a sample of the pages that are infected and the malware infection scripts that they found on those pages in their Webmaster Tools. The information is available in the "Malware" page which is part of the "Diagnostics" section of the Webmaster Tools.
If your website has been blacklisted by either Google or Norton Safe Web a scan can requested from Dasient Web Anti-Malware. A free "quick scan" will check around 30 of the website's pages. Pages scanned that contain known or suspected malicious code, including redirects, will be identified along with the malicious code.
Unmask Parasites will scan a page you specify and report hidden content contained in the page. The hidden content that it reports on includes external links, iframes, JavaScript, and other external references. Because all hidden content is reported you must review the results to see if the hidden content should be there or not. If the hidden content is known to contain malware it will be listed as "suspicious". The service will also look to see if the website is redirecting visitors who attempt to access the website through Google's search engine.
