Unfortunately we continue to find that web hosts don&#8217;t bother to make sure that they are not distributing outdated software to their customers.<\/p>\n<p>Recently while doing some work on a web site hosted with InMotion Hosting, we noticed that in the website&#8217;s cPanel control panel that the option to install Joomla 2.5 was being prominently displayed:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2437 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/inmotion-hosting-cpanel-joomla-25.png\" alt=\"inmotion-hosting-cpanel-joomla-25\" width=\"507\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/inmotion-hosting-cpanel-joomla-25.png 507w, https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/inmotion-hosting-cpanel-joomla-25-300x150.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 507px) 85vw, 507px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That should not be happening since\u00a0support for Joomla 2.5 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joomla.org\/announcements\/release-news\/5574-joomla-2-5-28-released.html\">ended back on December 31<\/a>. Not only does that put websites at risk if a security issues is found in Joomla 2.5, but it can cause unnecessary trouble down the road\u00a0because\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/2015\/01\/22\/the-upgrade-from-joomla-2-5-to-3-x-often-isnt-a-one-click-update\/\">upgrading from Joomla 2.5 to 3.x is not always the one-click upgrade it is a promoted as<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On the installation page they do provide the option to install the currently supported version of Joomla, 3.4.1, as well. But you would have to select that version from a drop down box:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2439\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/inmotion-hosting-joomla-25-installation-page.png\" alt=\"inmotion-hosting-joomla-25-installation-page\" width=\"510\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/inmotion-hosting-joomla-25-installation-page.png 510w, https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/inmotion-hosting-joomla-25-installation-page-300x182.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 85vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The problems don&#8217;t stop there.
