They have now filed a DMCA takedown notice against our website for including a screenshot of their homepage on in one our posts.<\/p>\n<p>In a post <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/26\/sitelock-labels-website-as-secure-despite-being-very-dangerous-for-visitors\/\">discussing how SiteLock was labeling a website as being &#8220;secure&#8221; while that contained malicious code that compromised credit card credentials<\/a> we had included a screenshot of their homepage backing our mention of them claiming to be the &#8220;The Global Leader in\u00a0Website Security&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>You can see how that portion of the page looked before the takedown:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sitelock-dmca-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2886\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sitelock-dmca-1.png\" alt=\"sitelock-dmca-1\" width=\"750\" height=\"620\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sitelock-dmca-1.png 750w, https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sitelock-dmca-1-300x248.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Beyond the fact that it is fairly clearly fair use, what is the purpose of hiding people from seeing that on our website?<\/p>\n<p>They also filed a notice against another image. This time it is even more clear to be fair use since in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/2016\/09\/06\/sitelock-spreading-false-information-about-wordpress-security-to-their-customers-through-their-platform-scan-for-wordpress\/\">post discussing how SiteLock is falsely claiming that WordPress installations have vulnerabilities<\/a>, we included the screenshot from their post\u00a0to discuss the fact they were showing vulnerabilities existing in a version of WordPress they didn&#8217;t exist in that version.<\/p>\n<p>You can see how that portion of the looked before the takedown:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sitelock-dmca-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2887\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sitelock-dmca-2.png\" alt=\"sitelock-dmca-2\" width=\"700\" height=\"560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sitelock-dmca-2.png 700w, https:\/\/www.whitefirdesign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sitelock-dmca-2-300x240.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Worth noting is that the textual content in SiteLock&#8217;s screenshot is actually not generated by them, instead copied from other sources.<\/p>\n<p>What makes this even more ridiculous\u00a0is they clearly now know that their post is showing that they lack a basic understanding of WordPress security, but instead of fixing their post, they are trying to hide you from seeing an image on our website.<\/p>\n<p>The only\u00a0reasonable explanation we can think of for them doing this is that they thought they could get the pages\u00a0those images were on removed by filing this, because removing the images alone doesn&#8217;t do anything to cover up what they are up to.<\/p>\n<h2>Full DMCA Takedown Notice<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>Abuse Department,<\/p>\n<p>My name is Logan Kipp, I am contacting you on behalf of my company<br \/>\nSiteLock, LLC.
