WordPress Upgrade

Keeping your installation of WordPress up to date is important because it insures your website is not hacked through a known vulnerability in WordPress. If your WordPress installation has already been hacked we can clean it up and then upgrade it. In addition to making sure your website is secure, new releases of WordPress add new features and functionality. The current version of WordPress is 3.5.1 (check what version you are currently running). Starting with version 2.7, the updating portion, but not the backup portion, of upgrade has been automated and is easy to do. If you prefer not to upgrade it yourself, we can do it for you following the proper upgrade procedure:

  1. Backup the WordPress files and database
  2. Deactivate plugins
  3. Copy the new version of WordPress onto the website or in WordPress 2.7 and above use the built-in upgrade function
  4. Run WordPress upgrade program, if necessary
  5. Reactive plugins one-by-one

Depending on what version of WordPress is currently installed, a number of incremental upgrades must be made during the upgrade process due to changes that have been made to WordPress database in certain versions. We have plenty of experience dealing with bringing very out of date installations up to the latest version. If you have attempted an upgrade but you receive a message that says in part "but wordpress 3.3.2 requires at least 5.2.4." or "wordpress 3.3.2 requires mysql 5.0 or higher" we can help you solve that as part of our upgrade process. We will upgrade any out of date plugins that are installed, if you have any plugins that are no longer supported we can help find a replacement. We will also make sure that you have a full set of Authentication Unique Keys and Salts.

Once the upgrade has been completed, we test the installation to insure the upgrade has not caused any issues. We can upgrade your WordPress installation in a few hours.

Starting with WordPress 3.0, WordPress MU has been integrated into WordPress and we can upgrade your from WordPress MU to the latest version of WordPress.
